Chacha is a matcha kit designed for a new generation.
We created it in response to the growing popularity of matcha, especially among young people who see it not only as an alternative to coffee but also as a creative opportunity. The product encourages them to experiment with everything from traditional tea to modern lattes and other playful recipes.
It holds four essential tools: the whisk (chasen), the whisk holder (kusenaoshi), the scoop (chashaku), and the bowl (chawan).
The whisk (chasen) remains in its traditional form. It works very well and holds a strong cultural connection to matcha. Any change would risk losing both its purpose and identity.
The whisk holder (kusenaoshi) has been updated to solve a small but common issue. After preparing matcha, the whisk can drip while drying, leaving residue on the counter. Our design integrates a subtle tray into the base to catch excess liquid, keeping the preparation area clean and tidy.
The scoop (chashaku) has been adapted for ease of use. While the traditional bamboo version also has a strong cultural connection to matcha, it can make measuring difficult for beginners. We designed our scoop to provide a consistent portion every time. This makes recipes easier to follow and ensures reliable results.
The bowl (chawan) has been redesigned with a slightly higher profile to reduce splashing during whisking, giving beginners more control. Its interior walls feature a matte textured finish, helping to break down matcha powder more effectively. Its larger capacity makes it versatile enough for both traditional servings and larger drinks like lattes. Additionally, a gentle outward curve at the rim allows for easy pouring into another cup or glass, while still working well for drinking directly from the bowl.
Chacha is imagined as a mostly ceramic product that steps away from the muted tones usually seen in tea ware. Its vibrant color and soft, curvy form make the set have a more playful presence in the home and introduces a new product to the growing matcha market.
