Esagono is a double-walled espresso cup that screws together. We designed it because we were interested in how a familiar object could be reconsidered through the logic of mechanical assembly, how two independent parts, threaded together by hand, could solve the problem of insulation while also changing the relationship between the person and the thing they use every day.
The inner cup is mirror-polished stainless steel. The outer sleeve is powder-coated aluminum. The two components thread together with the help of a hexagonal collar, a form borrowed directly from industrial fasteners. The act of screwing the two parts together before pulling a shot extends the ritual of making espresso into the object itself, turning something usually passive into something you assemble.
Because the parts are independent, the object stays open. Different colors, different sizes, different shapes. The same cup can extended into a family of variations.
